Benefits calculator

Step 1 of 8

Your living situation

We need some key information about your living situation. If you live with a partner, we need to know a little about them too.

Are you a British or Irish citizen living in the UK, or have you already claimed any UK benefits?
Yes
No
How to answer

Select "Yes" if you have ever successfully claimed one of the following (you can find the full list of benefits under "public funds" on this website):

  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
  • Adult disability payment (ADP)
  • Attendance Allowance
  • Pension Age Disability Payment
  • Carer's Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
  • Tax Credits

Select "No" if you are not a British or Irish citizen living in the UK or if you do not have access to public funds. The benefits calculator will still check for support that does not require access to public funds, such as National Insurance-based benefits, bill discounts, or grants.

Are you a student?

Select "Yes" if you are studying in Further Education or Higher Education.

Yes
No
Do you live with a partner?

Select "Yes" if you are married or live with someone as a couple, including civil partners or people you live with as if you are civil partners.

Yes
No
How to answer

If you have a partner, their income and savings can determine how much money you can get. That's why we need to know if you are living with a partner.

Select "Yes" if you are either:

  • married and living together as a couple, or
  • registered as civil partners and living together as a couple, or
  • not married or registered as civil partners but in a relationship and living together as a couple.

Select "No" if you are single or you and your partner have split up, but are still living in the same house for now.

Not sure? If you don't know how to answer, speak with an adviser for guidance.

Is your partner a British or Irish citizen living in the UK, or have they already claimed any UK benefits?

No
Is your partner a student?

Select "Yes" if your partner is studying in Further Education or Higher Education.

By sharing your postcode we can find your local benefits, and also help you find your Council Tax Band.

How to answer

For some benefits, the amount you can get depends on where you live. Your postcode helps us find local benefits, discounts, and grants available in your area.

You can enter just the first part (like EH10), but we won't be able to help you find your Council Tax Band. If you're homeless, use the postcode of somewhere in your area (for example your local jobcentre's postcode).
