Does your household receive Universal Credit Transitional Protection?

Select "Yes" if your Universal Credit statement shows a line called "Transitional Protection" (sometimes shown as "Transitional Element"). This is extra money added to your Universal Credit to help stop your payment going down when you move from legacy benefits.

  • Log in to your Universal Credit online account.
  • Open your latest payment statement.
  • Look for a line called "Transitional Protection" or "Transitional Element".

How to answer

Select Yes if:

  • Your partner has passed away in the last 6 months, or
  • Your baby was stillborn after 24 weeks of pregnancy, or
  • Your child under 16 (or under 20 and still in approved education or training) has passed away in the last 6 months.

Select No if none of these apply to you.

You can answer "Yes" if anyone in your home has any of these medical conditions:

  • Flaky skin disease (desquamation).
  • Leaky skin conditions (like eczema or psoriasis).
  • Varicose ulceration.
  • Incontinence.
  • Stomach stoma.
  • Crohn's disease.
  • Ulcerative colitis.
  • Kidney failure that requires home dialysis.
  • Any other health problem that needs a lot of extra water and can be confirmed by a doctor's note.
